In Cairo Again - Niamh.

Hello. Egypt is wonderful. We've been having a wonderful time. The Egytpians are warm and friendly. The history of the country is fascinating. The culture is truly middle eastern. The food is delicious. The music is marvellous. In two weeks we've seen such diversity. We've been from sprawling Cairo, capital of Egypt, to barren desert, to secluded Mount Sinai and to sunny, seaside Dahab.

We've managed to get the two most difficult visas sorted out in no time at all: we are now free to enter Sudan and Ethiopia. In about a week we will take the ferry from Aswan into Wadi Halfa and in to Sudan. I have to say, I'm nervous. Being here is fine: all the time I remind myself that what I see here will be nothing compared to what I see further south. Everything will be more difficult, more time consuming, more strenuous. Already, I've had one bout of food poisoning but I was near medical attention and pharmacies, I was in a well ventilated room, the temperature was about half what it will be during the trip and I was as healthy as I will be for the next ten months. And it was pretty rough. All the time, I imagine what lies ahead and I have to say, it will be a tough trip.
